Long live the Pacifists and the Activists
Photographic and video documentation of ten public
performances on the tourist bus circuit in Barcelona, Spain
2009

It was my first visit to Spain, home of the guitar. I rendezvoused with Scottish artist, Garry Williams in Barcelona and we spent three days exploring the city where Don Quixote's journey came to an end. We talked about the literary hero's wild-eyed idealism, about bullies and underdogs and about our relationships with our mothers. I also thought of Neil Young's song Rockin' in the free world. We met a Flamenco dancer named Laura Guillen Romero and she danced while we played on a rooftop.

We got a thousand points of light
For the homeless man
We got a kinder, gentler,
Machine gun hand
We got department stores
and toilet paper
Got styrofoam boxes
for the ozone layer
Got a man of the people,
says keep hope alive
Got fuel to burn,
got roads to drive.
Keep on rockin' in the free world,
Keep on rockin' in the free world.

Last verse from the song Rockin' in the free world
written by Neil Young. First released on the album Freedom, 1989
