Maasai and Afrikaner
Public performance with Gabriel Lengees
Bomas of Kenya Cultural Centre, Nairobi
photographic documentation by Sarah Penfold
2009

I loved the uncomplicated lightness of interaction with people in Kenya, but still had to work hard for the camera to suspend me, weightless in mid-air, with my buoyant jumping partner, Gabriel Lengees. His traditional Maasai shuka (which looks a bit Scottish to me) was woven by Alphaknits in Nairobi and my national costume was bought at Woolies and Cape Union Mart.
