On twelve weekends, over a span of six months, I pitched a small tent in the open landscape of the Scottish Highlands. I wanted to meditate in the company of nature and God. Sitting next to my one-man cathedral, I felt the wind, rain, snow and sunlight on my face. The solitude put some distance between me and my suburban values. I could even forgive the satellites cutting across the sky above me for reducing my campsite to a GPS coordinate. Enjoying the simple awe, I felt less burdened by the responsibility of being a fellow planet manager. From the lone tent it was easy to sing the praises of the sublime. I felt slightly more at ease with the knowledge that I'm part of an earth population nearing seven billion people.
