I am fifteen months old and sitting next to my father's grave, Vryheid, KwaZulu-Natal.
Gert Coetzer, mine manager, age sixty-one, died on 7 August 1969 from the injuries of a car accident sixteen days earlier. On the way to work his car collided with a speeding hearse.
